Coast Guard Pay FAQs 2026

How much does a Coast Guard E-5 make in 2026?

A Coast Guard PO2 (E-5) earns $2,849/month starting base pay in 2026. With BAH at a coastal duty station (e.g., Cape Cod: ~$2,268/mo with dependents) and BAS ($473/mo), total monthly compensation can reach $5,500–$6,000/month.

Do Coast Guard members get sea pay?

Yes. Coast Guard members assigned to cutters receive Hazardous Duty Incentive Pay (HDIP) for sea duty, equivalent to what DoD calls sea pay. Rates vary based on time assigned to a sea duty billet. Use our calculator and add it under special pays.

How much does Coast Guard Reserve drill pay in 2026?

Coast Guard Reserve members (CGRF) earn 1/30th of active duty base pay per drill period. A 2-day weekend IDT pays 4/30ths of base pay. For a USCG E-5 PO2 that is approximately $380/weekend drill. Extended active duty orders pay full active duty rates plus BAH and BAS.
